Fiorentino Bros Contracting Ltd

Road construction and excavation in Cranbrook and Sparwood

Fiorentino Bros. Contracting is a trusted, highly qualified and well-known contracting company in the East Kootenay with deep roots in the Cranbrook community.

The foundation for Fiorentino Bros. Contracting Ltd. was laid in 1966, when brothers Gus, Frank and Angelo Fiorentino started a small Cranbrook-based logging equipment company by the name of Interior Diesel & Equipment Ltd.

What followed were decades of expansion and business growth, as the company delved into forestry, earthmoving, mining, logging and road building, to name a few of our profitable ventures. Once established in Cranbrook, we expanded to serve the Sparwood area as well.

Check out this Kootenay Business article about our Sparwood expansion.

Now, supported by the experience of our company founders, the second generation of Fiorentino family members is bringing new energy, skills and knowledge to a wide range of construction and resource development projects in the Kootenays.

Fiorentino brothers

Excavation contractors in Cranbrook and Sparwood

We take on a variety of excavation and development jobs, performing them in a timely manner and without going over budget.

Examples of our past projects include:

- Lake Koocanusa Marina Project

We developed a three-season pleasure-craft marina near the north end of the lake. The lake bottom in the marina area was excavated to a depth of nine metres (30 feet) to accommodate watercraft during low water levels. The marina has become an active summer recreational service for the tourists and locals.

- Fernie, B.C., Landfill Closure

We thoroughly cleaned up the site, burying garbage and debris, then installed a methane gas collection system throughout the whole area. In order to protect Coal Creek and the Elk River; storm drainage and settling ponds were incorporated during the construction stage. On completion, the entire area was seeded.

- Moyie River Placer Mine Project

Over a 15-year period Fiorentino Bros. Contracting excavated in excess of two million cubic yards of extreme hard-consolidated clay at this project located on the Moyie River about 32 kilometres (20 miles) west of Cranbrook. The majority of the work involved the excavation of mining pits down to the bedrock level. The depth of these pits ranged from 14 to 27 metres (45 to 90 feet). In recognition of maintaining a balance between mining development and environmental protection, we received a citation award in 1989 from the Mining Association of B.C. for outstanding reclamation at the Moyie River Placer Mine.

Supporting and co-operating with First Nations communities

For more than 30 years, we have worked collaboratively with the local First Nation communities within the Ktunaxa Nation (pronounced tun-AH-hah) and its governing body – Ktunaxa Nation Council, as well as with the local First Nations people throughout their land use projects.

We greatly value our Ktunaxa employees, who are involved in key facets of road development and construction, as well as an array of integrated land-use projects.
