Pretty Pooch Paws n’ Spa is a reputable dog grooming salon that has been operating in Cranbrook, B.C., for over 30 years.

Owner Margie Leopold has been with the company almost as long, first working there as an employee before taking ownership in 1998. She's taken a number of courses to improve her knowledge base and give her four-legged clients and their guardians the best possible service and experience.

All of our staff members are well-trained and regularly attend seminars in Calgary and Vancouver to update their skill sets.

A few years ago, we also opened a doggy daycare, which has been a huge success. Our staff will work with dogs to socialize them and give them excellent care while their owners are away.

At Pretty Pooch, we know not every dog loves to be groomed. That’s why we take our time and do our best to help every animal feel comfortable. Returning clients (even dogs with anxiety around groomers) always get excited to see our team. Once they know how well they will be treated, dogs thoroughly enjoy their grooming appointments with us. We will take the time we need to establish that trust.

That being said, if your dog is older or fearful and you need to get in and out fast, let us know. We can get them trimmed, bathed, hand-dried and finished in a very short time if necessary. Often the owners can pick them up in under 90 minutes.

Aside from aesthetics, there is another important reason for having your dog groomed regularly. In addition to grooming, we will also alert you if we notice any physical condition that may need attention. Having an expert set of eyes to check your dog over, could help you address a medical condition before it becomes too serious.

What happens during a dog grooming appointment?

We put the dog up on the grooming table. Then we examine the dog and do an initial brushing, followed by a nail-trim and a cut of the hair around the ears.

We bathe the animal using a variety of shampoos, depending on the breed and coat condition.

Our staff puts the dog in an air blow-drier kennel. We use ones without heat to prevent overheating small dogs.

Our finishes set us apart, and that is why we have a reputation for quality grooming. Our final cuts and styles are customized to the breed and to the owner’s preferences. Sometimes we use cologne or water-soluble dye and different products such as anti-static sprays and ribbons. Some dogs are selectively shaved to the style, while some others are trimmed with scissors or clippers. We are meticulous, and the dogs come out looking their best.
